Adding protein to Weetabix is easier than you think and it doesn’t require protein powder or anything weird. The right toppings turn a plain bowl into something that actually keeps you going until lunch. Here are the five I rotate through every week.
Raspberries and Natural Yoghurt Weetabix Topping
I don’t know about you but I’ve eaten Weetabix for years. My mum used to make it in the morning before school. I am pretty partial to a tasty bowl now. Here are a few quick toppings that can turn your plain Weetabix Protein to a super tasty morning treat.
A handful of raspberries and natural yoghurt. This one might be my favourite. Milk free and super thick.
Blueberries and Kefir Weetabix Topping
Blueberries and Kefir. This one is for people who like tart flavours in the morning. Kefir is a fermented milk drink that’s packed with protein and probiotics, so this topping pulls double duty.
Peanut Butter Weetabix Topping
Peanut butter, mashed in. Nutty, sweet and you can add milk and heat up for a warm, creamy breakfast. High in protein and genuinely filling. I prefer this one on a day I can eat slowly.
Milk and Honey Weetabix Topping
Milk and honey. A classic. Great cold on a warm morning, or warmed up on a colder one. Adding a spoonful of Greek yoghurt here too gives you an extra protein hit without changing the flavour much.
For these toppings I used Weetabix Protein. I find it more crumbly than standard Weetabix but I prefer the texture. Either version works with these toppings.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you add protein to Weetabix?
The easiest ways are natural yoghurt, kefir, peanut butter or a handful of seeds like hemp or chia. You can also use Weetabix Protein biscuits as your base, which have more protein than the standard version. None of these require protein powder.
Is Weetabix high in protein?
Standard Weetabix has around 4.5g of protein per two biscuits, which is decent but not huge. Weetabix Protein biscuits have around 10g per two biscuits. Adding Greek yoghurt or peanut butter on top can take a bowl to 20g of protein or more.
What can I put on Weetabix to make it more filling?
Peanut butter is the most filling topping because of the combination of protein and healthy fat. Greek yoghurt and kefir are close behind. Adding a banana or berries gives you fibre which also helps you stay full longer.
Can you eat Weetabix with yoghurt instead of milk?
Yes, and it’s a good swap. Greek yoghurt in particular gives a much thicker, creamier texture than milk and adds significantly more protein. Natural yoghurt works well too and keeps it dairy but lighter on calories.
