The only wedding I remember attending is my own. This might be a strange thing to say because everyone I know seems to have been to countless weddings. But, this summer I am very excited cause I have two weddings.
The first is in Sweden, and the second is in the UK.
I thought that finding a dress would be easy – it turns out I have no idea how to a) dress and b) what styles of more formal dress suit me. After a long, long, looooooong time on the internet, there were a few guides that helped me focus on the type of dress that I’d like – and would like me back.
I steered away from the ‘wedding guest attire’ guides because a lot of them felt like they were OTT – I’m not wearing a hat etc. turns out it is much easier to find a prom dress to suit you – by far.
Barely any difference in the style of dress, and when you take ‘wedding guest’ out of the search, you have so many more options that just feel a bit more relaxed and still formal enough to work.

So as we can see, a great dress, with too many boobies flapping about. So, I also have the dress below on the way – and I think it’s simple, easy and gunna be cool in the heat of the summer.
I’m going to pair it with backless strappy cowboy-style mules and a matching belt – my friend who has very good taste and always looks amazing said that it will go. I trust her, so it’s a green light on it.
One of the main reasons I switched to something softer is that I am taking photos for the wedding(s)! I cannot wait to go and see my buddies in Sweden; the last time we were in a space together was for my 30th birthday – which seems a lifetime ago. We’d planned to head over, but with covid and life stuff, it just never happened.
BUT… the time is soon, and I am so excited I might just pop.
The Swedish wedding is in July, and the UK wedding is at the very end of August, so there is a bit of a gap between the two. And most likely the same dress is coming with me for both – I really don’t like buying things you can only use or wear once. WASTE.
Anyway, the last time I took event photos was at birthday parties and some funfairs, and I am for sure going to be rusty. I’ve been taking photos for years, so I’m really comfortable snapping people, things and animals.
For the Swedish wedding, I think there are a few people who will be taking photos so that we get the day covered as much as possible. I am also hoping to pack my polaroid camera because I feel like physical photos like that are such a nice memory to keep. Plus, you can never tell how they’re going to come out.
A massive bonus is that since a few people take photos, there will be a mix of styles, and what is more enjoyable than wedding photo sharing? I’m hoping to get pictures that are a little more journo and natural; I’m not good with posed photos – but I don’t mind a challenge, so! I can’t wait to see all their different edits and stuff I missed either. An exciting prospect.
The background for the celebrations post-wedding is stunning, and I can’t wait to fill an entire memory card on it.
Aside from the polaroid and some film, I have a Canon 70D body, and I’m toying with getting a new lens. One of the lenses went missing when we moved – heartbreaking, really, so I have a zoom and a 50mm atm. With 50mm, I know I am going to get consistency and that dreamy bokeh – plus it’s not bulky for travelling.
I’ve been toying with the idea of the Lomo cameras I have with some coloured filters – but I only have so much bag space.
The UK wedding is a family one, meaning there will be more familiar faces. The same dress will probably get rolled out, and I am happy with that! I don’t love the heat – and it doesn’t love me either, so… let’s hope for the best, haha.
Although I am down to do the photography for that one, there might be a change of plan, and a pro might be called in. My husband is the best man, and the kiddos are all coming to this wedding – so it will be much easier for me to miss important moments because I’ll be busy with all the babies!
If I am taking the snaps, I’ll be taking the same ‘kit’ because they are easy to pack, grab and swap, and I like that they’re a bit old and battered.
Pending no issues, I will be packing my bag this time next month to head off and see some of my favourite people in a stunning place, and I get to take photos of it.
And then, a month after, I’ll be packing again, ready to do the same. What luck – going from no weddings to two!
