It’s one of those things which all parents seem to have mixed feelings for. Sports day is that annual event that nobody ever seems quite prepared for. Of course, the more prepared you are, the better, so make sure that you are by following the following advice. In this post, we are going to look at some of the essential things you can do to make sure that your child is as ready for sports day as ever. At the same time, it should help to get you more ready for that day too. Let’s take a look and see what you might want to consider doing.
Take Part In Planning
If you really want the whole day to go as smoothly as possible, then you might even want to take part in planning the event itself. The majority of schools are delighted to have parents give them a helping hand, so don’t be afraid to put yourself forwards for this. There are probably a huge number of things you can do to help out – it might be that they need someone to order trophies, decorate the field, set up chairs and tables on the day – there are so many possible things you can do to make the day a little easier on everyone. And when you are a part of the planning team, chances are you will feel more prepared for yourself and your child too.
Speak With Your Child
Even though it is meant to be a day of fun, there are many children who might suffer from nerves or anxiety about the whole experience. If your child is particularly prone to this sort of reaction, then you might want to consider having a conversation with them about the event itself. Chances are, anything they are nervous about you can make distinctly easier by talking through patiently and calmly, so this is well worth considering if your child seems worried about the day. With any luck, you will be able to completely calm them in time for the big day, in which case it will be much more relaxing for everyone involved.
Warm Up
There is a chance that your child will feel the need to practice ahead of time. Of course, this is not necessary, and the whole day should be treated as fun first and foremost. But if they are really keen on preparing in this way, then allow them the time to do so. Have a day of warming up so that your child can feel much more prepared for sports day. You could even practice any of the particular races themselves if you want to be truly as prepared as possible. However, at the same time, it is probably a good idea to instill in your child a sense of joy about the whole thing. Wherever possible, remind them that it is more about taking part than winning, and that it doesn’t matter if they lose. This should take off a lot of the pressure that they might be feeling.
