Something I mentioned in my previous post about My First Forever Friends is the very gorgeous Forever Friends Bedtime Lightshow.
Here is what I said –
The reason I was so impressed is because it basically revolutionised my current and future parenting with a few simple details. Firstly the light show is red, orange and yellowy orange – all very warm tones. Every night show I have purchased before was a blue, purple, green job with tinkly music. This one has Brahams Lullaby and Twinkle Twinkle, but then moves on to a lapping water sound, a nature sounds with insects and birds and another similar one. All very relaxing.
The reason this one is special is that the standard night-light shows we have used for years have been all wrong. Or at least not as helpful as you might think. Sarah Ockwell-Smith explained that blue light, sends messages to our brains that tell us that it’s time to be awake. Where as the red and orange tones we associate with say, a Sunset, activate our brains to send messages that it is time to sleep. It is time to relax.
I have been parenting wrong for years.
Now I have had a chance to test it out for myself and see the kind of effect it had on my youngest I wish I had picked one up before.
I really love the warmth of the colours and it give the room an orange glow, when combined with the nature sounds is so relaxing. As we are still bed sharing I have gotten to enjoy the calm that the bear brings at the end of a very busy day.
The little details like the heart-shaped buttons to change the song are incredibly thoughtful and shows the care put into the process.
The whole range is really soft, surprisingly so and even thought the light show has a large plastic belly it’s still soft enough for a cuddle. I adore the small heart shape print on the feet of the bear and an extra special touch on the other foot is a small panel which you can place a picture of your child’s favourite person in so they can always be kept close.
With so many bed time light shows on the market it’s hard to know what to buy, before I would have gone for something bright, blues, purples and greens. Now I know the psychology behind the orange, red and yellow tones on this bear I wouldn’t ever buy anything else.
