Keeping That Family Feeling In Hard Times

BigLittleTentFest16.jpg

A lot of the time we don’t feel like we fit in. As adults, we know what to do about it, and we know whether it’s true or not, but as kids we can never be sure. So when you’re missing out on the family feeling, or feel like one of your children is, remind them how well you all work together. If you’re a mother, you’ll know how hard it is to keep on top of all your children’s feelings, but honestly, you wouldn’t have it any other way. Here’s a few ideas on keeping your family feeling loved and cared for in the tougher times of our lives.

Do More Things Together

If something is bothering you, or all of you are feeling down and out about your day in the house, at work, or school, try a day out together to have a good time as a family. Have dinner together around the table at night; it makes mealtimes a lot more fun and productive when you have a result for your hard work!

If this doesn’t work for you, trying staging a bit of a disaster. Whether it’s a power cut or pretending you’ve been snowed in, when there’s no alternative you can have a lot more fun as a family at home. It also means you get up to more than you usually would, like a good backyard BBQ or telling each other stories on the sofa.

Remind Your Children how much You Love Them

If you’ve recently found yourself at the door with a sign over it reading Austin Kemp Divorce Solicitors, you may feel like everything else is going to fall apart on top of it. But it doesn’t have to! We can squeeze out a little more effort that’ll soon turn into the natural ebb and flow of the daily routine, and teach our kids to forgive each other when they forget to share the crayons, so no tantrums drive you crazy.

Our kids are our worlds, and that means we need to keep treating them with the top priority respect we always want them to have. You’re a family unit for a reason, and being able to keep that together doesn’t have to be as hard as people make it seem on programmes on the TV.

Be Kind in Your Offtime

This mostly applies to yourself, but to be honest it’s always a good thing to remember: be kind to yourself and others around you, even when you feel bad. At the end of the day, don’t let yourself feel down about something you didn’t remember to do, or an interaction you think could have gone better.

You’re not alone and you never will be, and there’s plenty of people around who love you. Treat yourself with these little affirmation comments like you would your kids, as this means you’re being gentle to yourself at the end of a long day.

Harmony isn’t always going to happen, but it’s always possible!
