There is something magical and utterly heart stopping about the real firsts you go through with your children. The ones that take your breath away in the best possible way. I could put in a million pictures of my girls doing all their firsts, but we’d be in for a very long post. Instead, I’ve written something short, a poem, not the usual for me but nevertheless, it’s here.
The first breath you took,
took mine away.
The first time you took a step,
time stood still.
The first time you smiled,
my heart fluttered and burst.
The first time you said I Love You,
was when I knew what love really is.
The first time you said Mama,
I felt like you were mine to keep.
The first time you fell over,
My world collapsed – we both recovered.
The first time you slept all night,
was the first time I didn’t sleep at all.
The first time you had a Petits Filous yoghurt smeared face,
was the first time I saw you had grown so much.
The first time you let go of my hand,
was the first time I couldn’t do the same.
The first time you told me you were sad,
was the first time I was truly sad too.
The first time you said ‘You’re the best Mama’,
was the first time I really was.

* You might wonder why we chose Petits Filous as our first yoghurt taste for our baby lead weaning. There are a lot of yogurts available on the market but even my 9-year-old had these at just a little over 6 months. They are mild on the tummy, no bits so no choking hazard, the taste is light so great for kids just getting into tasting new foods, and Petits Filous is rich in calcium and protein – great for growing kids. As a brand I’ve used for 9 years, I wouldn’t have chosen anything else.
