This is something i mentioned in a Vlog a few days ago. Clearing up the cupboard(s) in your kitchen. Mine were a total mess. Over stuffed, things stacked on top of other stuff, baking items (in the wrong cupboard) that I had been lazy and left them there. Awful!
I just picked the one cupboard that we used the most. It was the messiest in the kitchen and really needed some work. I had been meaning to do it for ages but never ‘found’ the time. So it looked like this…
As you can see it is a huge mess. There is no order to it, I can never find anything, things are just piled up, and squashed in. I have no idea why it ended up like this other than I never got round to fixing it.
So firstly I had to remove everything. Which took about 3-5 minutes, so not long at all.
I took some time to clean out the corners of any spilled packets, drips from jam pot and general ick. As you can see on this picture I hadn’t pulled all of the top shelve off yet, but wanted to take a mid activity snap. Cleaning the shelves took about 3 minutes.
I have a lot of containers, baskets and tins just lying around really but you can pick them up in poundstores and get pretty much the same neat look.
I have got a lot more space now. I recycled all of the boxes that where taking up space, all of the opened bags of lentils and peas have been neatly stacked away and all the packets have a home that doesn’t involve falling all over the counter when I open the cupboard. This took the longest time as I wanted to make sure things were in the places that made the most sense. Like top shelf for unopened larger boxes, bags of rice and oats. Middle for things we use less often and bottom for items we use most or daily. I am sure there is an organisation guru crying at these pictures but to me this is as neat as it gets!
Everything is neatly labelled so it is all easy to find, the wooden trays are light and compact, mint tea is stored in a screw top storage container as it has a tendency to make everything smell minty, and I’ve used a plastic Tupperware type container for the jams and spreads as they have a tendency to leak and if weren’t used for a while might ruin the wooden containers and sink through on to the shelves again – which I’m hoping to avoid this time.
So I have made my life a lot easier and neater and it isn’t bugging me anymore. Take out 20 minutes, throw things away, donate things, neaten it up.
Have a Wonderful Weekend.
