I’ve talked about making more of your passion before, with specific relation to food and cooking. I’ve also given you some few pointers on how I handle making and saving money. So, basically, what I’m trying to say is I provide awesome advice, and you’re welcome. In all seriousness, it’s interesting to think about combining these two ideas. Could you make money doing something that you love? If you could, as a stay at home mom, you could be even more productive than I’m sure you already are. Or, you could quit your current, terrible job and spend the day doing something you truly love. The question is how do you get started on this path. Well, I think if you’re going to make money from a passion you have two options.
You can either be a producer or a freelancer. If you want to be a producer, you need to think about what you’re going to make and sell. Typically, this is going to be something that you absolutely love. It could be cooking, baking or making furniture from wood in the attic. It could be absolutely anything, and you just need to consider whether there’s a demand there. If there is, then it’s time to get cracking making your product for sale. You might be wondering how you would know if there’s demand for what you’re making. Have any friends or family been interested in what you’ve created? If the answer is yes, that’s your evidence.
Selling a service is a little different because you don’t have to create something from scratch at all. Instead, you’ll be selling your name, brand or profile that you have created. Usually, you’ll set this up online for something such as blogging.
If you’re interested in either of these possibilities, we need to look at them in more detail.
Privately Producing Products For Sale
Quality Not Quantity
If you want to make money off products that you are creating, you don’t want to jump the gun. Basically, you shouldn’t be focusing on creating hundreds of products in one week. For instance, if you are baking, you want to create ten or twenty for sale and go from there. If you’re building furniture or a similar craft product, you need to focus on building one quality piece to start with. Once you have sold that, you can create another and slowly build up a positive reputation. Remember, if you’re selling on a name, you need that name to be linked to high standards. You’d be surprised how quickly a negative reputation could push you out of the market.
The Right Materials
If you are producing a product, you need to make sure that there are high-quality materials being used. For instance, you might be creating furniture for sale. If that’s the case, you need to make sure that the bonding adhesives used will hold. Otherwise, your products will be seen as items that easily succumb to wear and tear.
Choosing A Point Of Sale
When you’re starting off, you need to sell on a small market. This is the easiest way to make sure that you do get attention from customers. If you enter a market that’s too large, you’ll be overwhelmed by the massive level of competition. You might even want to set up your own stall in a local street market. You should certainly do something like this before you consider investing money into a shop or website. This is again about ensuring demand is there. Once you have built up a number of customers, you can sell on a bigger stage.
Offering A Service That You Can Sell
Alternatively, you may be more interested in selling services that you can offer as a freelancer. If that’s the case, it’s all about building up an online reputation. You need to make sure that you create a brand or name that you can sell on.
Here, it is crucial that you connect with customers on a more personal level. You do not want them to see you as just another nameless, faceless corporation. Once you start connecting to customers through sources like social media, you will see a loyal base of customers start to build up. Remember, quality is still important here. If you’re offering a quality service, you can use this to build up positive reviews. This will quickly gain attention from more people looking to use your service.
I hope you see now that these two paths could ensure that your passion could put some extra money in your bank account. It could even become a full-blown career.
