Three Ways to Boost Your Confidence

Even the most outgoing of people have down days, and if you are in need of a confidence boost, these three ways may be just what you require. Confidence is needed to achieve many things, including any dreams and ambitions you have, professionally and personally. Discover quick pick-me-ups, and long-term changes that can help you feel more positive about yourself.

Look good – feel good

Taking care of your appearance is sometimes seen as being vain or self-centred, but dressing well, looking after your personal hygiene, and wanting to appear as your best self are all crucial elements of self-care. Get serious about your body and well-being and you will soon see a difference in your confidence. If there is a certain part of your body that makes you feel self-conscious, think realistically about why you feel this way about it. This could be your weight, your teeth, or your hair, so question what is stopping you from making the change. When you are overweight you can feel extremely sluggish and unfit and become unhappy with the way you look. Make a healthy change and do more exercise daily and eat healthy foods. When it is something like crooked or missing teeth making you lack confidence, there are steps you can take to change this, such as having clear braces fitted at your local orthodontist or looking into crowns and dental implants. Orthodontics and dental treatments like Invisalign invisible braces can have long-term benefits, especially for your confidence. Your lack of confidence may be something as simple as wanting a new hairstyle, but being reluctant to do something new. Take the plunge and ask your hairdresser or barber for their advice. Don’t be afraid of change.

Take time out from social media

Once a way of connecting with friends and family both near and far, social media has, in many ways, become a vessel for competitiveness. Filtered pictures and one-sided tales of how fantastic someone’s life is can play havoc with the minds of those who perceive themselves as not having such a great life. Recent studies have shown that social media can have an extremely negative impact on a person’s mental health, with users experiencing depression and anxiety as a direct result of regular social media use. Take a break from scrolling through gushing relationship posts, new house purchases and images of beautiful people, and concentrate on the here and now in your own life. If social media is an integral part of your business, allocate just an hour or so per day and don’t be tempted to deviate from your business. You may also want to consider allowing someone else to take care of the business element of your social media accounts or having a completely separate business account and eliminating your personal accounts completely. It may seem you can’t exist without social media, but there are ways to manage it successfully, so your mental health is not affected.

Get organised

When you have a lot to do it, be it at work, with the kids, or with friends and family, things can get a little chaotic and mentally draining. Two tools that can help you make life simpler are a calendar and diary. As soon as you are aware of an event or an appointment note it on your calendar, and also in your diary with the finer details included. Keep the calendar somewhere you will see it daily, such as the kitchen, and ensure you check your diary each morning and evening too. Every evening, make a list of what needs to be done each day and consult it in the morning, ticking off each task as it is completed. You will find that you feel a sense of accomplishment in addition to becoming much more organised and less stressed. You can also keep appointments and tasks noted on your mobile device, but it is always wise to keep a hardcopy diary just in case your phone goes missing or it needs to be charged and you can’t access the information.
