Recently we tested out The Reading Chest.

The Reading Chest was formed in 2012 by a former teacher. It is a through-the-post book rental service that boasts a huge collection of the specialist reading trees for ages 4-9. They enable parents to put in place a simple and effective reading routine. It is easy, affordable and allows children to have more input to what they read, hen they read it and starts them really thinking about WHAT they’ve read with the review section of the website.
They offer Collins Big Cat, Oxford Reading Tree, Bug Club, Treetops, Project X, Alpha Kids, Floppy’s Phonics, Ginn Pocket Reads, Rigby Star and Yellow Door Phonics.
The website is very parent and child friendly, you can easily navigate to get to the reading level of your child and order the appropriate books.

What did Eldest think?
On the bag? – I love the bag, it is really cool. I can carry my books to my Nannies or y’know just to town if we are having a coffee. (she doesn’t drink coffee)
On the bookmark? I love it. I will never have to bend my page again.
Reward chart? I think it will help me read more books. I like the stickers but maybe we could have some sparkly ones? I like sparkles. On the chart I can see how many books I have and that makes me proud.
Book selection? I think it is cool that you get a mix of surprise books, I think it makes you want to do more reading ’cause it’s like getting a present in the post every couple of weeks… or when ever it is delivered.
Overall?
I like books, I like reading. I like to read new books that I don’t have and you get something different every time. I like that you can earn certificates and stuff to. It makes it fun. If you don’t like reading, maybe this would make you like reading? I dunno, but I would give it a 58 stars, for being cool.
So there you have it. Eldest has given a 58 star rating and really enjoyed using the trail.
