As winter arrives, our family start spending less time in our garden. After all, it gets too cold outside for little ones. They play indoors instead during the next few months. Although you are not using your garden as much, it’s so important to make sure you do a few things to ensure it’s ready for next year. After all, you don’t want to have to revamp the whole garden next year as you didn’t prepare for the colder months! Therefore, here are some simple ways to make sure your garden is ready for your family next year!

Put covers over your outdoor furniture

As the weather takes a turn for the worst, it’s so important to make sure you protect your outdoor furniture. After all, you don’t want it to end up getting ruined, so you have to buy a new set in the spring. Therefore, it’s best to put as much as you can away in your shed or garage. If you are limited for space, you need to buy some covers for your furniture. That way, it will prevent them from rusting during the winter break! You can easily buy some online such as on Amazon, or pick some up from your local garden centre. And put any outdoor furniture in areas of your garden which are covered by your roof. That way, they are less likely to be damaged by rainfall.

Make any minor repairs to fencing

It’s so important that you make sure the fencing in your garden will withstand the severe weather. The best way to do this is by making sure any repairs that need doing are completed ASAP. Otherwise, the fencing could end up falling apart during the winter months. And you could end up damaging other items in your garden if it does fall after a storm! If it feels unsteady, you should replace any broken wooden panels. You might want to get a company such as Hillsborough Fencing to fit a new fence which will withstand the winter weather. That way, you don’t have to worry about it during the winter months.

Apply stain to wood decking

You might not realise that wood in your decking might rot during the winter months. It might discolour and stop your garden looking beautiful when it’s time to use it next year. Therefore, to protect the wood in your garden, you should buy a staining paint which can easily be applied. It will soak into the timber and will stop moisture penetration. That way, it will stay in a great condition during the winter months. You can read more about decking care in my previous blog.

Store all tools in safe places

Just like your outdoor furniture, it’s so important to make sure all tools are put away in a safe place before winter hits. Items such as garden saws are likely to rust if they are left out in the rain during the winter months. And you want them stored away before the kids head out there next year.

Hopefully, your garden will look fantastic and won’t need a revamp when you step outdoors in the spring!
