The Perfect Summers Evening

Gardening is a great weekend pastime. Being out in the sun, planting beautiful flowers and making every last little detail just perfect. But if you’re working full-time, you don’t get that much time to enjoy the garden during the day. By the time you get home, you’ll only have an hour or two of sun left before it gets dark. That doesn’t mean you can’t still sit out in your new garden, you’ll just need to get it set up for the evening. With a bit of forethought, you can tailor your garden so it’s just right for a summers evening. Here’s how to do it.

Planting

Those vibrant flowers you planted look stunning under the sun, but once it fades, the colors will get lost in the darkness. You can still have them in there because they look great during the day, but you might want to try something else for the evenings. Pale colors stick out in the dark a lot more, so they are best if you want a good night time look. Try putting in some white roses and foxgloves. There are also a lot of plants that release more of a scent after dark, breathing new life into the garden once the sun is down. Evening primrose and honeysuckles will completely transform the scent of your garden from day to night.

Lighting

If you’re going to be sitting out in the garden once it’s dark, you’re obviously going to need some good lighting. Try places like https://www.brightlightz.co.uk/decking-lights to get brilliant lights that you can fit right into the decking. They won’t take up any extra space but they will give you a good amount of light when you need it. For a bit of extra wow factor, why not try hanging some fairy lights around any trees that you have, it will really add to the atmosphere.

Heating

Even in summer, the evenings can get a bit chilly. If you have space, invest in an outdoor heater to keep yourself warm. It will prolong the time that you can spend in the garden and make it usable even into the autumn months. Alternatively, you could install a fire pit. They make a great centerpiece for the garden and they give off enough heat to cook with so they double up as a barbecue. This is great for those evenings when you’re hosting, or even if you just want to cook a barbecue meal for you and the family.

Furniture

Good garden furniture is essential for any time of the day but is especially important at night. During the day, you can relax on the grass, but after dark, it will be a bit cold and possibly damp. Having good table and chair set in the garden is perfect for eating outdoors. It’s advisable to get some that have removable cushions, in case the weather turns bad. Otherwise, you’ll get home and sit down, hoping to relax, and get soaked.

Using these simple tips, you can get the most out of your garden morning, noon and night.
