Make sure to be in a calm environment, use soothing tones of voice and calm gestures. Start to associate the calm sensations with a relaxing massage.It is better that baby be lying in front of you in a warm room with little to no clothing or nappy on.
Indian Milking: Making an O shape with your hands glide them from hip to ankle
Hug and Glide: Both hands in an O shape, move hands from side to side and down the leg
Thumb over thumb: Walk your thumbs from baby’s heel to baby’s toes
Under toes: press 3 times where the tiny toes meet the sole of the foot
Spine slide: Rub both sides of the foot from toes to heel
Ball of foot: Press three times on the heel with your thumb
Thumb press: Gently walk your thumb to the middle of the foot and apply a tiny amount of pressure to the solar plexus
Little Piggies: Carefully roll each toe around ones
Top of foot: stroke the top of the foot from toes to ankle
Ankle circles: Like wrist circles, trace small circles around the ankle
Swedish Milking: Making an O shape with your hands glide them from ankle to hip
Once you have finished, pick baby up, give them a kiss and say ‘Thank you’.
