When the weather is warm, there are few better places to be than outside enjoying your garden. Since this space can’t really be utilised during the coldest parts of the year, when the weather is nice it’s well worth taking advantage. Whether it’s sunbathing, reading a book, enjoying a glass of wine or hosting a party for family and friends, the garden offers lots of opportunities for enjoyment. However there’s one thing that can really bring the mood down, and that’s knowing you have nosy neighbours watching over you. It can be difficult to relax knowing you have beady eyes on you, and might even put you off spending time in your garden entirely. Thankfully there are things you can do to help maintain your privacy. Here are a few ways to go about it!
Have Tall Fencing Installed
Do your nosy neighbours make themselves busy in their garden every time you go out there? Perhaps they’re always peering into your garden or making excuses to go out and look over. If so, having some six-foot fencing panels installed is a good option. While this won’t stop people seeing from their top window, if you and your neighbours are both out in the garden at the same time it prevents them being able to see right the way through. Perfect for giving you that bit more privacy.
Grow Tall Hedges or Bushes
If people being able to see in from the bottom of your garden, why not grow some tall plants? Hedging or fast growing shrubs and trees not only look beautiful in the garden but can help to block the view of people looking in too. You can buy mature trees that are ready to transplant into the ground, otherwise, choose fast growing varieties.
Buy a Gazebo or Pergola
Gazebos and pergolas are great, as you can sit outside and still enjoy the open air but with a bit more privacy. If you encourage climbing plants like ivy and roses to ramble over the wood, it provides even more coverage and looks gorgeous too. You could add some large potted plants and even hanging baskets to block the view further. Add a seating area or table underneath, that way whenever you’re sat out there you’re out of direct view of neighbours looking in.
Take Advantage of Blind Spots In The Garden
If the problem you have is mainly people looking down from their top windows, be aware that it’s often difficult to see the area right next to the house- so take advantage of this. Perhaps there are areas which are covered by fencing or other structures if so use these to your benefit. Place seating and other chillout zones here, so you’re away from prying eyes. If sitting right in the middle of the garden in full view of others makes you feel conscious, make the most of the more secluded spots around the edges.
