It’s something very simple,
very quiet in it’s ways,
the smell of a fresh coffee,
that early morning haze.
I hear the tiny giggles,
the hushed chatter,
the patter of the feet,
must fill their bowls now,
with overnight oats to eat.
Smallest is still snoozing,
she awoke at 3,
in the silence of the night,
I fed her,
just her and me.
Then men both leave,
they have jobs to do,
I look at the dog,
for two minutes,
it’s just me and you,
he has deep brown eyes,
and a short welcoming coat.
It’s peaceful right now.
You could hear a pin drop.
In five or so minutes,
it’s like drum and bass,
I’m waiting for the morning beat to drop.
It’s loud and it’s fast,
they both go rushing by,
cleared their bowls,
raised voices,
breaking through,
the remaining sleep dust,
glittering around my eyes,
the remaining sleep dust,
glittering around my eyes,
I sip my tepid coffee,
They both smile at me.
I hear a cry out,
a noise so loud and high,
shattering the final moments,
early morning is over.
The bowls are the in sink,
the big two are both reading,
the smallest is sipping milk,
I sip my cold coffee.
The Morning Win is the quiet cog,
turning to keep life going,
moving us from sleepy haze,
to loud and fun filled days,
moving us from bed,
to mobile beings.
