Many of us dream of getting serious about photography. Many of us also fail to take a shot! If you’ve been harbouring photographer ambitions, it’s time to make the jump and see life through the lens! In truth, there’s no secret about how to make photography work for you. One thing you can be sure of is that you won’t get anywhere if you don’t take pictures. Whether you want to make money from your efforts, or just take pictures as a hobby, photography can be amazing. Here are a few tips that could help to get you started!

LOOK THROUGH NEW EYES

To get a great photograph, look at the world in a way few people do. This is easier achieved than you would think. Approach your subject with curiosity. Think about how you could display it to best show its beauty. Looking through new eyes doesn’t mean you have to go crazy. Finding a unique angle to show something from could be what the image needs. Don’t just turn those new eyes to your subject, either. Approach the world with new eyes when seeking inspiration. Many people avoid getting started because they haven’t got a ‘subject’. In truth, no subject is going to come to you. Go out and find something that intrigues you. Be curious about everything. A rubbish bin can be beautiful if you look at right!

WORKSHOPS

If you can’t inspire yourself, it might be worth signing up for a photography workshop. That way, you’ll learn the basics in an inspiring environment. There’s nothing so good for creativity as being around other creative individuals. Because there’s usually a fee to pay, you’ll also have the financial pressure to get to work! Not to mention that you’ll get the chance to meet new friends who share your interest. You could set up photography dates with the people in your workshop!

USE WHAT YOU’VE GOT

Have you fallen into the trap of putting off your photography dreams until you can afford a top quality camera? Have you stopped taking pictures until you get top end editing software? Stop it! All you need to take good pictures is a basic camera and your eyes. These days, most phones have a camera of high enough quality to take fantastic pictures. There’s no excuse. It’s true that expensive cameras have the benefit of many different settings. Even so, you don’t need them! In fact, when you’re starting out, it’s best not to have them. Messing around trying to work out what each one does will distract you from the task at hand.

HAVE FUN

Having fun is the most important thing to remember. You may not be a perfect photographer right now, but that doesn’t matter. Remember that you’re taking pictures because you want to. It doesn’t matter how good they are, as long as you enjoy yourself. At the end of the day, no one’s incredible when they first start out. There’s plenty of time for that later on!
