Keeping your family healthy and happy is something everybody wants. Not just the people you live with either – what about your extended family? Having a large family can be loads of fun, so make the most of it! Here are a few ways you can keep your family healthy and happy:
Do Things Together As A Family
Make sure you do things together as a family. This could be anything, from going to a theme park to just going for a walk. This will bring your family closer together. Too many families don’t really spend time together. Kids have school and after school clubs. Parents work hard and don’t get a lot of free time. It’s understandable. But if you don’t start spending time with your family now, chances are you’ll regret it somewhere down the line. Even if you can only dedicate one day a week to your family, make sure you do. Getting aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents involved can make for even better days out too. Visiting relatives you haven’t seen for a while can be good for the family. Grandparents and grandchildren can have a special bond, so it might be nice to make sure your children interact with them regularly. If you have elderly parents, it’s a good idea to make sure they are happy and well cared for when you can’t be around. You can see more online at Hopton Cottage Care Homes.
Stay In The Loop
Different families have different dynamics. The way you function will be different to the way other families function, and that’s fine. That being said, you should feel able to tell each other things to a certain extent. Families who share problems and worries will be much closer. How well do you really know your kids and what is going on in their lives? You can love your kids without really knowing them and what they are about. Make sure you make an effort to actually get to know your family and you might be pleasantly surprised at what great people they are. This is so much more satisfying than having a relationship where you’re just there as a disciplinarian for your kids. Maybe you could share stories with them about you being young to encourage them to open up to you. You could tell them about your day to encourage them to tell you about theirs. Don’t just ask what they learned in class. Ask what they learned from the day, from the people they met, and things like that. This will give you a much better idea of who they are as people.

Teach Them About Being Healthy
The lessons you teach your kids when they are young stay with them throughout the majority of their lives, both good and bad. Whether you realise it or not, you often ingrain things into their subconscious. The smallest comment could make them believe something about the world well into adulthood. Let’s say you are overweight, but you say it’s in your genes. While certain people do hold onto fat more readily than others, being overweight is just a case of overeating. If you tell your kids it’s down to genes, they may grow up to believe that they have no control over their health or weight. This is false! This isn’t just about lessons to do with weight either, but life and the world in general. Make sure that from a young age you’re teaching your kids about being healthy and ingraining healthy beliefs into them. This will be beneficial for you, as it encourages you to become a healthier, more positive person too. A healthy family is always a happy family!
Get Active Together
Get active together as a family and it might just make exercise fun for everyone. Most people say that don’t like exercise, but they just aren’t used to be so active. By getting active together, you’ll all get healthier and bond. You can go walking, hiking, swimming, or even play sports. Consider a camping trip as well since you’ll have the chance to be outside. You’ll also be able to figure out what items you need to camp, such as a tent, a small flashlight, or sleeping bag. Whatever you do, aim to do it a couple of times a week and you’ll all reap the benefits. Your kids are more likely to stay active and healthy as they age this way. You’ll stay mobile as you get more mature too.
Cook Healthy Meals
Cooking healthy meals is so important. Make sure you’re mindful of the ingredients you’re cooking with. Not only that, make sure you’re mindful of portion sizes too. Portion sizes can be a huge problem for families. You should all be eating until you’re satisfied, but not so much that you’re stuffed. Make sure you’re all getting plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and other natural foods. You don’t want to be eating out too much or having many takeaways. Try to keep the sweets and chocolate you have in the house under control too. It can be nice to give kids these treats occasionally, but you don’t want them to get into the habit of eating junk every day. You especially don’t want them to use it when they are bored or as a way to cover their emotions. A balanced approach when it comes to meals is best, but make sure it’s really balanced and you’re not kidding yourself.

Have Fun
Have fun as a family to make memories that you’ll keep forever. Possessions fade away, so you shouldn’t strive for them. Nor should you teach your children that that’s what life is about. You should put a focus on having fun and doing things that enrich your lives. Play games, see new places, explore. Learn and be silly.
I hope this guide has encouraged you to spend more time together as a family. Not just time around each other either; time really getting to know one another and having fun. Preferably time without gadgets and things to get in the way! How do you like to spend time with your family! Leave a comment below to let me know. See you again soon!
