Engagement.

I announced our news yesterday evening and was met with lots of lovely congratulatory messages – it was quite lovely.
The original date I had picked was just days before his sisters chosen date (we didn’t know about!) so we have done a quick shuffle and will be changing to the 25th May 2016.

I already have my heart set on one venue, one dress and the rest I have an idea about.

One thing I am sure about is that I don’t want an engagement ring. It just isn’t me. I have never been the girl who was sitting staring longingly at other women who had a big rock on their finger. Not only that but I don’t really think it fair that we are defined from that moment on by a ring and a title of Miss, Mrs, Mizz. As for the wedding band, I’m really not keen either! That stuff is just me though. I have a few other ideas too but I will share them as we go along and they become more concrete!

I think if you love a ring then brilliant. I do believe it is a personal choice. Now more than ever you can bend the ‘rules’ of traditional marriage and make it fit your own version of love. To me it isn’t just about making a commitment to each other, it is about making a commitment to our children’s future – exactly the same as we pay into a trust fund. If anything should happen we are all a little more secure. That is important to us all.

Apart from all that I’m very excited and even though I know it isn’t for a long time and there is no need to plan – there is no harm in starting early… right?

How long did it take you to plan your wedding? How did you feel on the big day? Share this with me ladies, I’m going to need it!

  1. Huge congratulations! I’m not a jewellery person and the only time I ever wear my engagement & wedding ring is when I leave the house. Which is never 😉

    1. Haha, another thing is I know he’d spend a lot and I’d rather buy house/baby things! Thank you!

  2. Congratulations! I’m not a jewellery person either, although I have an engagement and wedding ring, I hardly ever wear them. We’ve been married a year and I think I’ve worn them maybe 4-5 times since then. Good luck with all the planning, we had a very quiet and understated day and it was all planned and done within a month – if you fancy a nosy I wrote about it here http://www.confessionsofanewmummy.co.uk/2014/01/my-big-day.html 🙂

    1. That sounds lovely, I’m not really keen on ours being so far away but there is time to change that date as nothing is set in stone. I love your wedding post, so sweet and sounds like you had a great day and that is what it is all about! Thank you for sharing.

  3. wow – congrats! I love weddings, and love being married x hope you have loads of fun planning xxx
