Summer! It seems like a distant memory and something that is also so far in the future. I think it’s easy to get so overwhelmed with winter because of the cold days, the long nights, and the festive season being in full swing. While there is nothing wrong with embracing the winter weather and indulging in a few hot chocolates and mince pies, it’s nice to be mindful that this season is short lived, just like summer is. I started to think about summer next year, and all the plans you can begin to make for your garden and how to make the most out of it. You’d be surprised that by making a few decisions now, investments and even plans, you can make much more use of your outside space when the sun finally begins to shine through once more. With that in mind, here are some of the best suggestions for your summer garden.
Consider entertaining outside more
I suppose that sometimes in the UK we can be lucky to even get weather the remotely fits well with what summer should be. But, I think this can be used as an excuse to not spend as much time outside as we should. The summer is the perfect chance to entertain with friends and family, especially if you have children, so it’s worth thinking about ways that you can do that now so that next summer is the best yet. Perhaps adding a canopy to a decked area, outside heaters for those cool summer evenings, or even installing a hot tub. They are growing in popularity and can be something the whole family can enjoy. You can even Design Your Own Hot Tub which could prove a huge talking point when finally installed.
Make plans for activities outside
While the weather can play a huge part in being outside, sometimes we just need to be a little more imaginative with what we can do. There are plenty of ideas online on activities you can do outside when the weather turns a bit grey. Whether that is sitting on a chair in the cool breeze reading a book with a blanket and hot coffee, or creating adventures for your children. We all know that getting children outside more helps them sleep better and burn off some of that energy they have.
Enjoy more BBQ’s no matter the weather
Using the BBQ is a great way to cook healthy and nutritious food the whole family will enjoy. From chicken breasts and salmon fillets to jacket potatoes and corn on the cob. But again the weather seems to play a huge part in how often we BBQ in this country. So make a plan to use that BBQ more when the warmer weather starts to creep back in. Even if you just cook outside and eat indoors. As children can watch and help, with adult supervision, it might even encourage them to try new foods.
Spend time in your landscaping and make your garden more user-friendly
Finally, making your garden more user-friendly for you should encourage you to spend some more time outside. Perhaps creating a dining area where you can all congregate as a family and eat together, or having one section of the garden dedicated to children and their toys so the rest of the area can feel like a relaxing adult space.
I hope this has offered a bit of inspiration for next summer and has got you excited to use your garden a little more.
