There are lots of ways you can feel more confident in the bedroom, such as taking care of your health, treating yourself to new underwear or indulging in a pampering session. But all this can only go so far if you don’t actually like your room – dirty laundry and tatty sheets can hardly be considered an aphrodisiac!
Soften your lighting:
If your body confidence is lacking perhaps you don’t wish to feel displayed under a 75 watt bulb. Install a dimmer switch or try candles to give your room the right atmosphere. Regardless of whether you like it with the lights on or off, opt for soft, low lighting. This flatters all figures and adds ambiance to the room.
Paint the walls:
According to a recent study, the “sexiest” bedroom color is purple. Followed closely by red. Sometimes, all you need is the act of changing your surroundings. Try painting a statement wall of energising orange, romantic powder pink or rich and sensual burgundy, or look for these colours in bed sheets, cushions and deep-pile rugs.
Change your sheets and pillows:
Spring for sheets that give you a little bit of an “ooh” feeling when you slide into bed. Silk sheets definitely work but a high thread count cotton can be silky to the touch as well. Fluffy pillows or 2 in 1 pillow that allow you to go for a firm or softer side really encourage you to lie back and enjoy the moment.
Put up some pictures:
Blow up some pictures from one of your romantic vacations, pop them in frames and hang them on your walls. Happy memories make for a happy bedroom. It’s fantastic to have pictures of your beautiful children all around you but these images are very unlikely to inspire you to get into the mood for an evening of sensuality. Leave the little ones school pictures in the living room or adorning the hall walls.
Clean up the clutter:
That stuff that’s been sitting on top of your dresser for the last three months? Move it, put it away or throw it out. Bedrooms should be shrines to minimalism. This will allow you to focus on getting a good night – feeling confident that your dirty laundry isn’t on full display and allow the two of you to focus on one another, not the mess that’s surrounding you.
Stimulate the senses:
Now that you’ve sorted the lighting out, it’s time to think about stimulating your senses, along with your partner’s. Richly scented candles, silk bed sheets and wonderfully touchable cushions are all options that you could use to enhance your new boudoir.
For a DIY approach, you could add a drop of your favourite essential oil, such as rose or jasmine, to a plain candle, or just opt for a velvet throw to go over your current bed sheets if you can’t afford new ones. The point is to make your boudoir feel like a sensual, sexual and romantic area of your home!
As parents we often leave the lust behind but making sure you focus on each other, even once in awhile, brings you closer together and makes every room a happier one to be in for the rest of the family.
