My camera set up isn’t really ideal to take night sky shots, but a bit of long exposure and we managed to pick up some lovely stars. I was actually star gazing on the night it was recommend would be best for the Persieds. I was lucky enough to see so many firing across the sky. There were little groups of stargazers dotted about too. It was nice to be alone, together in the dark. I must add that there is no parking on the side I walked up at night. As usual I had great fun the the long exposure and moving around the lights. The glow from the city was incredibly bright too.

Sadly I didn’t manage to catch any of the meteors with my camera! Maybe next time!

  1. I know this post is like a year old, but I was going to check out the meteor shower tomorrow and wondered where you can park near to the Beacon once the gates have shut at night (we are about 20 mins drive away!)

    1. We parked up next to the closed gates of the carpark, not sure if that is the done thing but there were about 4 cars there. A few groups of people walking around, was really lovely. I hope you have a great time!!

  2. I know this post is old, but I am planning a romantic late night picnic for my boyfriend and I. We live hours apart and are meeting in the middle (near Barr Beacon) during January’s full moon. I don’t know the area at all, and only know about the park through continuous googling! Can you recommend anywhere quiet for us to go but still see the moon? Also. What to type into my maps to take us to a good spot to park that car? Xx

    1. We couldn’t even find a good spot to park! So if you do find one, please reply and let me know. We parked the car next to the closed car park and walked up the hill to the grassy bit, which you’ll see the moon on no problem, it’s really open, dress warm and have fun! Xx
