A Weekend Away – Marine Holiday Park

Have you ever woken up and made a snap decision? My snap decision on Friday was that I would hop in the car, and take my longest drive since passing my test and head to Wales that evening. I booked Marine Holiday Park for just £149 for three nights, and as I had never been to Rhyl in my whole life, it was a bit of a gamble. Anyway, I finished up my work, sent a text to my husband and told him what I had booked and where – then packed up. As it was spur of the moment, we naturally forgot everything of any use, but all had at least 27 pairs of underwear. Ideal.

My friend, Rachel, recommended the route, as she moved there a while ago and is au fait with the journey. Handy, and a lovely, smooth drive. It doesn’t feel around 2 hours, which is particularly useful for city drivers who are used to gridlock traffic and city fumes rather than trees and the pungent aroma of cow poop in the air. My car is 18 years old this year, she is called Paul Rudd. Back to the arrival, the park hadn’t actually got our pack with security, which would have been a nightmare if they hadn’t been beyond accommodating. We were kept up to date, and in fact, the lady on duty in the arcade unlocked a few machines for the girls to play on while we waited. Not long after, a manager or the manager (I don’t recall it was after 9pm by then!) turned up, in uniform to get our keys and everything sorted. To be honest with you, they were all so friendly, even if it had been another hour of a drive I wouldn’t have been annoyed.

Once we got into the caravan, everyone kind of flopped down and the warm drinks were made. We headed out for a drive after a short while, and to gather some food for husband – Macdonalds was his preference.

In the morning at 7am, we headed straight to the local Morrison’s which is around 3 minutes from the holiday park, stocked up and went straight to the beach.

The idea wasn’t so much to have a holiday, it was more about just being able to do something because we wanted to. I invited my brother and his family, and my parents along and they loved it so much we’ve booked again for a few weeks time. This time a caravan to fit everyone in! Seeing the girls all play together was pretty lovely.

We spent the day going to The Harbour Hub Cafe and the beach until it was time to eat in the evening. Also met with my blog buddy Rachel and her boys, all of the kids made immediate friends – which was really nice. It is pretty lovely that any time we head back, they’ll have people to play with – that’s what good holiday memories are made of.

We went for a meal at a The Harbour, and although the food was alright we all agreed we won’t be going back there.

In general, it was nice to pack up and leave for a few days, without having anything to worry about. Rhyl was that place that all of my school friends use to head off to in the summer, and most half-terms. At the time I ever had any interest in it, we would head to Brighton to be with family instead. However, on a spur of the moment booking, I am pretty sure it is somewhere we will go back to many more times.
